Latest Grid Connection Changes – What You Need to Know

Since October 2024, the grid connection process has changed for everyone—not just you. Every solar retailer and distributor is now required to follow stricter compliance rules before allowing systems to export power.

This means that every solar installation after 1st October 2024 must pass additional communication and compliance tests. While some systems pass these tests quickly, many face delays due to:
Weak or interrupted internet connection during testing
Solar monitoring app is offline
Not enough excess power is being exported while tests are running

💡 Important Note: This is not just happening to you—it’s happening to many customers across all retailers and distributors. We understand your frustration, and we are working on this as a priority.

To help avoid delays, please ensure:
✅ Your internet is stable and uninterrupted
✅ Your solar monitoring app is online at all times

The overall grid connection process now takes longer due to these additional compliance steps. Previously, the timeline was around up to 90 days, but with the new system, it can take up to 120 days or more.

  • Grid application submission: 14-28 days
  • Distributor processing time: Up to 60 days
  • New compliance testing and troubleshooting: Can take additional time depending on system performance

Estimated total time for successful grid connection: 120 days or more (previously 90 days)

Distributor-specific successful testing times post submission:

  • Powercor & United: 10-15 minutes if successful
  • AusNet: Up to 7 days
  • Jemena: upto 10-15 days

💡 Important Note: While some customers may see their system successfully connected sooner, many people are experiencing similar delays across different retailers and distributors. These additional compliance steps are still new, and even distributors are refining their processes.

The system only becomes live after final inspection, and compliance testing is conducted online through the distributor’s portal.

We understand it can be frustrating, but this is not something we or any other retailer can bypass. The process relies on factors beyond our control, such as:

  • Internet stability at your home
  • Successful communication between your system and the distributor’s software
  • Distributor testing times

💡 Important Note: These steps are required for all solar installations across Victoria. We are actively monitoring your system’s progress and will keep you informed.

If a test fails, it must be restarted, which can cause additional delays. Common reasons for test failures include:
Internet connection dropping during the test
Solar monitoring app being offline
Incorrect manufacturer settings or export control errors
Issues from the distributor’s end
CT reverse error (current transformer wiring issue)

💡 Important Note: This is a new process, and even distributors are still adjusting. While some customers pass the test smoothly, many others across Victoria are facing similar challenges.

To ensure a successful grid connection as soon as possible:
Ensure your solar system has a stable and uninterrupted internet connection
Keep your solar monitoring app online at all times
Reduce electricity consumption during testing to allow more power to be exported

💡 Important Note: These are the main factors that cause delays in successful testing. Since this is a requirement for every solar installation in Victoria, ensuring these are in place will help speed up the process.

Yes! We understand this process is frustrating, and we are committed to keeping you informed.
