Current & Upcoming New Inventions For Solar Technology

The statistics for 2021, show solar technology as the 3rd largest renewable energy resource. It succeeds after the hydropower and wind energy. Though solar technology holds a prestigious history of inventions, discoveries and experiments. Still, new highways are getting launched in the same direction by groups of physicists. Solar energy is simply a powerful alternative to the fossil fuel energy form. It is clean, eco-friendly, green and totally renewable.

If we go on numbers, the sunlight that Earth receives is 10,000 more than the total energy used by the world. So there’s no question of solar energy lacking at least anyway soon. Using this ultimate benefit as an opportunity, the inventors of the photovoltaic solar system are now experimenting on a couple of new things written as follows –

Crystalline silicon

To add to the benefits of solar panels, crystalline silicon (monocrystalline solar panel), which is the most used semiconducting material in solar panels, is under development to generate more efficiency as compared to the existing one.

Slim Film

The narrow & sleek design of the second-generation thin-film solar cell is proving the best choice for modern era solar panel demands. The reason is, they got the size 350 times slimmer (smaller) light-absorbing layers compare to the standard Si-panels. The best thing about these thin films is, they are lightweight and flexible. Also, an added advantage is that they are very easy to install.

Solar panel material efficiency

If we take the example of thin films, then there are four types of materials that are used in their making –

Cadmium-telluride (CdTe)

Amorphous silicon

Copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS), and

Gallium-arsenide (GaAs)

Out of these, the CIGS solar cells turns out to be the best promising efficiency with up to 21%. So, by the time the solar companies can serve with high defined CIGS modules of solar panels in order to make your solar investment more worthy. It has already started with space, aerospace and the government sectors using the technology under their solar energy requirements.

Perovskite solar cells

One other beautiful and in-budget variation of the thin design solar films are Perovskite solar cells. Key features of these high-performance thin films include –

Exclusively thinner design

Easy low-temperature processing

Ultralight absorption capabilities

Good performance even in low/diffused light

Lightweight, flexible & semi transparent

Easier to install and maintain

Available at an attractive cheaper rate

One notable thing about these types of solar panels is, that they are PRINTABLE as well. The recent roll-to-roll printed Perovskite solar cells reached an efficiency of ~12.2%.

New technologies are also involving the experimenting of new, creative methods to harvest maximum solar energy. And the interesting thing about this is, some of them involve those same old age techniques by which the power of solar energy was determined first. A Swiss startup is using integrated lenses in the solar panel’s glass. This will be boosting the concentration of the solar rays up to 200 times, making the solar panels efficiency reach up to 30% or more.

Even the present scenario of the solar industry is sunlight with lots of inventions. There are many more discoveries to come and the solar companies are very well aware of the changing solar environment and possible technical updates and advancements. Have a Question, CONTACT US
